Everton supporters have expressed their desire to see Mikel Arteta replace Marco Silva as top dog at Goodison Park.

On Monday afternoon, Duncan Castles reported that the Everton hierarchy were considering the Spaniard as a potential replacement for Silva (via Everton News Feed).

With some of the club’s fans still infatuated with their former midfielder, many took to social media to show their delight over the link.

The 37-year-old spent six-and-a-half years playing for the blue half of Merseyside, with the first six months on loan from Real Sociedad before joining permanently for £2.5 million in the summer of 2005 (as per Transfermarkt).

Arteta went on to play 209 times for Everton, bagging 35 goals and 33 assists in the process (via Transfermarkt), before making a £10-million switch to Arsenal (via BBC).

With Everton finding life difficult under their 42-year-old Portuguese manager at times (as per Independent), many supporters wanted to see the change in direction.

What do we think?

Since making the step into coaching, Arteta has been learning, arguably, from the best in the form of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City (as per Man City) – meaning he could have no better pedigree to take the step into full-time management.

However, there has been plenty of talk surrounding the 37-year-old leaving the Etihad Stadium for management, but not with the Toffees.

All the talk has pointed the former midfielder in the direction of another of his former clubs, Arsenal (per The Sun), but should Arteta make a successful manager as he has a coach – only time will tell.
