Some Celtic fans that signing on-loan Southampton star Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent basis would be a ‘no-brainer’ for the Hoops.

Reports from Football Insider recently claimed that the Saints have put on a price tag of between £8m-£10million on the Norwegian international, but that valuation could change if the club ends up sacking current boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The same report has said that the Hoops have been in contact with Southampton about possibly signing the player on a permanent basis. They are currently eager to turn the temporary deal into a permanent one.

It is also claimed by the outlet that Celtic’s ability to sign the player depends on their financial capacities. But some fans are completely sure that Elyounoussi should be acquired permanently soon.

Elyounoussi joined the club on loan from Southampton this past summer after his move to the South of England had failed.

But he has undergone a rejuvenation this season in Glasgow. He has played a total of 12 games in all competitions for this season for the club, contributing to as many as 13 goals during this time. In the Premiership, he has played six times in the league, scoring four times and assisting twice.

He had joined Southampton from Basel in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £16m. But in his stint at the club, Elyounoussi could not impress. He failed to score or assist even once in all competitions for the club, appearing 19 times and 16 times in the Premier League.

While some fans want the club to sign him permanently, they fear that his wage demands could be a problem.

In his last season at Basel though, Elyounoussi had impressed. He had played 44 times in all competitions for the club, scoring 13 times and assisting as many as 17 times for the Swiss giants.

What do we think?

For how much the Saints have demanded for the player, there should be no doubt that Celtic should go and get his signature done. He has been the club’s chief creator and as the season wears on, his influence will only increase. Wages might be a problem but the player appears to be the real deal and he should be signed, no matter what.
