Some Celtic fans are desperate to see on-loan Southampton star Mohamed Elyounoussi sign a permanent deal at the club soon.

Elyounoussi, who is valued at £13.5 million (Transfermarkt), joined the Hoops from Southampton in a temporary loan deal earlier this summer and has been a crucial player for Neil Lennon’s men so far this season.

Having played six times in the Scottish Premiership, the former Basel man has scored four goals and has two assists to his name. He was recently handed the Premiership Player of the Month for October award.

Some Celtic fans are already desperate to see the Norwegian get signed by their club on a permanent basis from the Saints.

Southampton, who had Mark Hughes at the helm last summer, had signed Elyounoussi from Swiss side Basel for a fee of £16million. But he failed to establish himself a first-team regular at St.Mary’s.

He played 16 times in the Premier League for Southampton, failing to score or assist even once. He also played three times in the domestic cups- twice in the FA Cup and once in the League Cup. He failed to register any goal or assist in them too.

During his last season at Basel though, Elyounoussi had impressed for them. He played 44 times in all competitions for them, scoring 13 times and racking up 17 assists as well. 11 of the goals and 15 of the assists came in the Swiss League.

Some more fans urged Celtic to sign the playmaker permanently.

Elyounnousi has also played regularly for the Norwegian national team. He has appeared 24 times in all competitions, scoring five times and assisting twice.

What do we think?

Elyounoussi has rejuvenated his career in Glasgow. His six-goal contribution to just as many games shows that he can be the real deal on his day. Indeed, Celtic should be looking closely, considering that things didn’t work out for him at Southampton.

In that case, the Saints could ask for a low fee to let the Norwegian go. The Hoops have to take complete advantage of that, although there will likely be a flip-side. If the 25-year-old continues to perform at an exceptionally high standard, then what’s to say the Premier League outfit won’t look to cash in on him and demand a larger transfer fee.
