The international break is the perfect time to reminisce about players of yesteryear and these Arsenal fans have been in a nostalgic mood. Particularly during Arsene Wenger’s early days, the Gunners were famous for leaping across the channel and plucking the best talent from France in cut-price deals.

Since Wenger’s arrival, the Gunners have been represented by no fewer than 29 French players and in and amongst that contingent there have been some incredible players and some not so special ones.

These Arsenal fans were asked which two of these former Gunners they would have in their team today and this is how the majority voted.

What do we think?

Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira are arguably the clubs two greatest ever players. Henry is the clubs all-time leading goalscorer with 228 goals and produced some mind-blowing displays during North London derbies, European away nights and victories over the old enemy Manchester United. Although the Gunners have an expert marksman in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they certainly miss the individual brilliance and aura Henry brought to the table every time he took to the field.

Vieira was as tough as they come, a leader of men with a winning mentality but also a very talented footballer. The Frenchman epitomised the steel the great Arsenal sides were once known for and captained the club to an unbeaten Premier League season in 2003/04 amongst other things.

Arsenal fans have the luxury of looking back at those glory days in times of disappointment and the international break represents the perfect opportunity to put current ongoings to one side and smile.
