Massimiliano Allegri is the man lots of Arsenal fans would love to see come in and take over from under-fire boss Unai Emery. The former Juventus and AC Milan coach has taken some time out since leading the Turin side to their fifth successive Scudetto under his management. Allegri is said to be waiting for the right opportunity to present itself before taking the leap back into full-time work but Bayern Munich are now on the lookout for somebody to succeed Niko Kovac.

Kovac left the German giants on Sunday evening following a humiliating defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt – Arsenal’s Europa League opponents. Allegri has been linked with the job and that has left Arsenal fans calling on the club not to let the opportunity to grab the Italian pass them by.

One fan even suggested that the Gunners’ current situation is Jurgen Klopp 2.0, which alludes to when Arsenal reportedly ruled out a move to bring the German to North London.

What do we think?

There’s no doubting Allegri’s credentials as a top-level manager. When he arrived at Juventus, there were many who believed the club had made a mistake hiring him but to their surprise, he was able to build on the foundations set by Antonio Conte and restore Juventus’ status as one of the European powerhouses.

The Italian is a proven winner and so it’s not surprising that so many Arsenal fans want to see him take over at the club, but it’s not necessarily as simple as that. Would the club be willing to meet Allegri’s demands in terms of salary and transfer funds? Would he be given the final say on transfers? – something the club were unwilling to provide to Mikel Arteta any guarantees around.

The reality is that Arsenal’s fall from grace has been a damaging one. One that means they’re no longer able to compete with the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid for talent or for staff. If Arsenal were to make a move for Allegri, it would depend on whether he’s looking for a job in which he can build or a job in which he can win instantly.
