Arsenal fans were deeply disappointed to see Aaron Ramsey leave for Italy in the summer on a free-transfer after 11 years with the club and it appears one particular conversation between he, his representatives and Unai Emery prompted the Welshman to begin looking for a new club.

According to the Athletic, a meeting was held at London Colney in the summer of 2018 in which Ramsey and his entourage were keen to understand Emery’s plans for the player heading in to the final season of his contract.

It’s said that the meeting concluded without Ramsey or his representatives having gained any better understanding of his position at the club and the report suggests that played a part in the player’s team reaching out to any potential takers.

Would Ramsey have stayed under a different coach?

TIF Tactics – Indecision cost Emery a great deal

Emery’s indecision and inability to be clear and accurate in his communication cost the Spaniard a great deal during his time in North London. It appears to have driven players away, most-notably Aaron Ramsey; caused frustration within the squad and ultimately made a very experienced manager seem like a bit of a joke and as though he didn’t know what he was doing.

His tendency to chop and change tactically with such regularity led to instability and later caused the players to lose faith in his methods. In many ways, Emery tried to flex his muscles by alienating the likes of Mesut Ozil and what was meant to be a display of strength soon turned into a weakness when he was forced to recall the World Cup winner in a desperate attempt to prevent the slump.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course but Arsenal simply named the wrong successor to Arsene Wenger and may go through four or even five managers before they find somebody who is able to steer the ship on a more long-termed basis.
