Arsenal’s Unai Emery was speaking to the press ahead of the visit of Southampton this weekend and has provided an update on Granit Xhaka. The Spaniard said his former captain is “feeling better” and that he will decide tomorrow whether the 27-year-old will feature or not.

Ever since that unsavoury exchange between the player and the club’s supporters during the draw with Crystal Palace in October, the Switzerland international has not appeared for the club.

Despite the incident taking place some weeks ago, these supporters have not forgotten and remain adamant the £36m-rated midfielder (TransferMarkt) should never wear the famous red and white of Arsenal again.

What do we think?

Despite what Granit Xhaka’s biggest critics will have you believe, the Gunners haven’t been any better since his omission from the squad – in fact, they’ve, arguably, looked worse. Results haven’t improved and Emirates Stadium outfit are yet to win a fixture without the divisive figure in the side this season (Sky Sports).

It appears that there are some supporters who will never forgive the Swiss captain for the disrespectful nature of his actions that afternoon and so perhaps a move away from north London would be the best solution for all parties, something he has been heavily linked with in recent days.

Emery has left the door open for the player to return this weekend, but despite the Head Coach’s comments, there’s a chance it’s unlikely he will be named in the match-day squad from fear of a backlash from the already agitated home crowd.
