Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium and is said to be unhappy with his role in the team. The Uruguayan made his name playing in the Italian top-flight and attracted the interest of some of the peninsula’s biggest clubs as well as Liverpool before eventually agreeing to a move to London.

Interestingly, Torreira’s agent has reportedly now come out and commented on the player’s situation and made a claim that he would be playing for Napoli right now had negotiations with Arsenal not come to fruition, as well as highlighting that the midfielder is not at ease at this moment in time.

Here’s how Arsenal fans reacted:

What do we think?

Of course, the fact that Torreira is not at ease and that his agent suggests he is unhappy with Unai Emery is a worrying sign for Arsenal fans, as he could look to force a move if things don’t improve.

When the 23-year-old first arrived in North London, his tenacious and energetic performances created a buzz and enthusiasm amongst the Arsenal fans. Finally, in the eyes of most, the club finally had a natural and competent defensive midfield player who could create the platform for the more creative talent to go on and play with freedom.

Perhaps there were some who got ahead of themselves; after all, Torreira is a young player who was always going to need time to adapt to life in England and the Premier League. But in the second half of the 2018/19 season, the midfielder seemingly fell out of favour and when he has been included since, he’s been asked to play in a more advanced role.

Emery feels Torreira is equipped to play further forward but that’s an unpopular opinion amongst the supporters. With Granit Xhaka seemingly out of the picture, it will be interesting to see whether Torreira gets more minutes in his favoured defensive midfield position during the coming weeks.
