The father of RB Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland has revealed that the Norwegian youngster was a Nottingham Forest fan.

In an interview that Erling’s father Alfe-Inge gave to TalkSPORT, he said: “He was a Leeds fan and a City fan and a Nottingham Forest fan – he followed me obviously, but that is what you do in your youth.

“It is different from being a supporter and having a job. But he was born in Leeds.”

Haaland scored for Salzburg in their 1-1 draw against Serie A giants Napoli last night and has been on fire for the Austrian club in recent months.

The 19-year-old striker has scored as many as 23 times in all competitions for his club this season, having played only 17 times. His goalscoring heroics have linked Haaland with moves to the likes of Manchester United, Juventus and Napoli themselves.

He scored a brace in Salzburg’s Champions League game against Liverpool as well, grabbing an impressive hat-trick on his debut in the competition against Belgian side Genk.

Last night’s goal against the Partenopei saw Haaland become only the fourth player in Champions League history to score in each of his first four games in the competition.

He joined Salzburg from Norwegian club Molde, where he played under current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before leaving in the January of 2019.

TIF Tactics – It’s unlikely Haaland will turn out for Forest in the near future

The news about the striker being a Nottingham Forest fan would come as a surprise to many, considering that he was born in Leeds when his father was at the Yorkshire side during that time.

Whether the Tricky Trees will ever have the opportunity to have the £10.8m-rated forward playing in their colours in the near future certainly remains to be seen, however he appears to be on a path to one of the top sides within Europe at the moment, so it would appear highly unlikely he will be turning out at the City Ground, unless it is against them.
