Leeds United’s Lewie Coyle has played 15 games for Fleetwood Town in League One this season and it’s said that the 24-year-old is ‘rated highly by Joey Barton’ and apparently the Whites are ready to sell the defender in January – according to a report by Football Insider.

Currently on loan at Fleetwood Town, Coyle has made 15 appearances in League One, which has accumulated into four assists from the right-back. The 24-year-old won the WhoScored man of the match award when his side played MK Dons on 26th October.

Coyle has an estimated Transfermarkt value of £225k and is set to return to Leeds United on December 31st. However, a report from Football Insider has suggested ‘that Leeds are set to explore the possibility of permanently offloading Coyle in the winter window.’

It would seem likely that the club who would purchase Coyle would be Fleetwood, as they have already seen what he’s capable of, whilst he appears to be already very settled in the squad, all of which would make the transfer pretty straight forward.

Indeed, the 24-year-old’s future at Elland Road has been highly in doubt for some time now, as he has only ever played 23 total matches for Leeds and has never featured for Marcelo Bielsa, which makes it hardly surprising his football lies away from the LS11 outfit permanently.

Verdict

This seems a straight forward situation; Coyle should be sold to Fleetwood Town. It seems right now he’s found his level in League One and we see no sense in disrupting that, perhaps other clubs will be able to offer more money than The Cod Army, but apart from that, he should stay put. With manager Barton apparently highly rating the 24-year-old, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they tried to take him off Marcelo Bielsa’s hands permanently once the transfer window reopens in the next six weeks or so.
