Leeds United are said to be ‘in the hunt’ for Rangers defensive-midfielder Glen Kamara, as talent spotters are said to have watched the Finn in action when he recently played 90-minutes in the Europa League Group G match against Porto.

Should the Whites sign Kamara, he would be direct competition to players such as Kalvin Phillips and Mateusz Klich. The Finland international midfielder is currently playing for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership where he’s made six appearances so far this season. The 24-year-old was extremely impressive in his last UEFA Europa League match against Porto, he finished the game with a pass success rate of 93% and a WhoScored rating of 7.1/10.

According to Football Insider: “Ibrox manager Steven Gerrard has revealed he is braced for major offers for the 24-year-old when the January window opens.”

Football Insider has also claimed a Leeds source has said: “Kamara is on the club’s radar and talent spotters were at Ibrox to watch him in action in last Thursday’s memorable 2-0 Europa League triumph over Porto.” That match was only on 7th November, meaning if the claims are true this is a very fresh move for the 24-year-old.

TIF Tactics – Who is Glen Kamara?

Current Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been full of praise for Glen Kamara in the past, calling him a ‘class act’ when playing against Kilmarnock, whilst the ex-Liverpool midfielder said that he ‘knew the player’ before bringing him to Ibrox, which could be a good sign as to what Leeds could get if they were to bring him to Elland Road.

The Finn plays in the defensive midfield position, similar to where hot prospect Phillips plays. He’s also been exposed to an extremely high level of football in the UEFA Europa League; a competition the 24-year-old has played in four times already this season and achieving an average WhoScored rating of 6.61/10.

TIF Verdict

We see no reason why, if given the chance, Leeds shouldn’t sign Glen Kamara. He’s young, talented and would provide solid competition in the midfield. The 24-year-old is also coming from a strong league, so he shouldn’t have any issues adapting, should Leeds decide to sign him in the January transfer window.
