Sheffield Wednesday fans were greeted to the positive news that club captain Tom Lees is back in training this week, however, a lot of Owls fans are not keen to see him regain his starting position just yet.
Lees suffered a hamstring injury in September’s 2-1 defeat to QPR and travelled to Barcelona last month to receive treatment. The centre-back, who joined from Yorkshire rivals Leeds in 2014, is shown to be back in full training on the club’s official Twitter page, but not all Owls fans were excited about his return.
In Lees’ absence, Garry Monk’s side have risen up the Championship table, thanks in most part to their strong defence. The Owls have only conceded one goal in their last four Championship fixtures, so many fans feel as if their captain will disrupt Wednesday’s current strong back-line.
Dominic Iorfa has formed an excellent partnership at centre-back with Julian Borner in recent matches, although Borner suffered an injury ahead of the goalless draw with Leeds, which could offer Lees an opportunity to get back into the starting eleven.
Some of the best reactions from Owls fans to Lees’ promising fitness update can be seen in the tweets below.
Gonna be tough to get back in the team

Good to see him back, more competition for the role now, either the current lads kick on or Lees proves why the role should be his. Either way it’s good news for us.

These tweets show that Owls fans, whilst happy to see their club captain back in training, clearly feel that it will be a struggle for the 28-year-old to reclaim a place in Monk’s starting eleven.
What do we think?
Sheffield Wednesday’s recent defensive form may have been strong, but Lees made a very solid start to the season himself, averaging a 7.01 rating before his injury. In the five games he played, the Owls kept two clean sheets, which is similar to their current standing. Iorfa and Borner may be playing well for now, but they will know that any slip-ups could result in Lees being back in the starting line-up.
