Dominic Iorfa was one man who collected a lot of praise from Sheffield Wednesday fans following their 1-0 win over Stoke on Tuesday night, with supporters appreciating the defender’s performance in his new centre-back position.

Iorfa himself admitted that the Owls’ performance wasn’t their best, but they were, of course, happy to grind out the win and earn the three points. The 24-year-old has been deployed as a centre-back in recent games by Garry Monk and seems to be flourishing there, having helped his side to their second consecutive home clean sheet.

The former Wolves man is naturally a right-back but is finding his feet in a more central position for the Owls, following his transfer from Wolves in January 2019. Another clean sheet and win for Sheffield Wednesday meant it was no surprise to see fans take to Twitter to compliment the Englishman on his performance.

Some of the best reactions from Owls fans to Iorfa’s performance and the victory can be seen in the tweets below.

These tweets clearly show that Wednesday fans are highly appreciative of their defender and extremely happy with the partnership he is beginning to form with fellow centre-back Julian Börner.

What do we think?

Iorfa looks to be beginning to fulfill his potential in his new position with the Owls as they move into automatic promotion contention. The versatile defender has scored highly on WhoScored in recent weeks, averaging a 6.85 rating in the Championship thus far. The defender also contributed a goal in the win at Middlesbrough, demonstrating his aerial prowess.

Indeed, Monk’s side have shown that they are extremely competent in defence, with only Leeds having conceded less in the Championship and Iorfa has been a big part of that. If the Owls can start finding the net with more regularity, they may be able to maintain and even push on from their current strong position.
