Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to show their love for Michy Batshuayi’s equalising goal in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the fourth-round of the Carabao Cup.
This spout of praise has come off the back of the official Chelsea Twitter account tweeting about the goal after it was scored in yesterday’s match as part of the club’s in-game coverage.
This tweet gathered a lot of replies from Chelsea fans who then showed their appreciation for the stupendous strike.
Here’s a sample of happy Chelsea fans stunned by Batshuayi’s goal, with a couple of fans even bringing up two former players in Didier Drogba and Diego Costa. The former is the club’s second all-time top goalscorer behind only Frank Lampard, while the Spaniard produced a healthy 58 goals and sits 11th despite only playing 120 games.

The Belgian scored in the 60th minute to equal the scoring after Marcus Rashford put the visitors ahead with a penalty in the first half. Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero secured the assist for Batshuayi’s goal with a long ball up to the striker from the penalty box. After that it was all down to the Belgian who charged through the United defence before firing a sweet, low shot hard to the bottom left corner of the United goal from outside the box, leaving David de Gea helpless in the United net (YouTube).

What do we think?
The 26-year-old’s goal last night was fantastic. This season, Batshuayi has proved himself to be very useful and pop up at the right moments when called into action. A prime example of this would be his winning goal in Amsterdam in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Ajax in the Champions League last week. Despite falling behind Tammy Abraham in the centre-forward pecking order, Batshuayi has had success as an impact sub. Having only played in five Premier League matches so far this season, all coming on as a substitute, the Belgian has scored one goal and made one assist in just 45 minutes of playing time in the league (per Transfermarkt).
