Some Manchester United do not believe that the club can sign Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland in the next few months.

The Red Devils were recently linked with a move for Haaland. Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Manchester Evening News) claimed that Serie A giants Napoli are confident that United will sign the Norwegian striker soon.

The report claims that while Napoli are also keen on signing the former Molde striker, they feel United’s financial strength would help them seal the deal for Haaland. The Partenopei are expecting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men to sign Haaland in January.

Despite the good news, some United fans feel their club will not sign the player.

Still 19, Haaland has caught the gaze of many this season. He has found the back of the net as many 21 times in all competitions for Salzburg this season. He has played only 14 times and also racked up a tally of six assists.

The youngster impressed for Salzburg in their Champions League games too. After grabbing a hat-trick on his competition debut against Genk, Haaland scored once against Liverpool and scored two goals against Napoli themselves (TransferMarkt).

He joined the club from Molde last January and had spent time under current United boss Solskjaer at the Norwegian club.

Some United fans are also delighted at the prospect of signing Haaland.

Haaland played under Solskjaer until the end of 2018, when the former United striker came back to Old Trafford as the club’s interim manager. The 19-year-old played 50 times in total for Molde and scored 20 times, assisting six times.

Born in Leeds, Haaland is the son of former Man City player Alfe-Inge Haaland.

What do we think?

It isn’t out of the question for United to sign Haaland, considering his links to Solskjaer. As Napoli fear, United have the money to lure him to Old Trafford too. Considering their sale of Romelu Lukaku to Inter and their inability to sign a replacement, Haaland could be the perfect man to be the Belgian’s able successor at the Theatre of Dreams.
