Mohamed Salah added another goal to his collection on Sunday evening with an emphatic penalty kick to hand Liverpool a vital 2-1 victory over Spurs. However, the goal was significant for another reason, as James Pearce explains.
The former Liverpool Echo journalist informed fans that Salah’s crucial late goal was his 50th in 58 Anfield appearances, a record only bettered by club legend Roger Hunt.
The news was music to ears of many Liverpool fans, who were amazed by Salah’s groundbreaking goal record:
Mohamed Salah scores his 50th goal at Anfield in 58 games. Remarkable record. Only #LFC player to ever get to a half century at home in fewer games was Roger Hunt (55 games).

What makes the record even more impressive, as many fans pointed out, was that Roger Hunt scored all of these goals as a striker, with many coming in the second division:
And he was a striker

What we think
The Egyptian has been nothing short of brilliant since moving to Anfield, having produced a whopping 79 goals and 33 assists in just 118 appearances. After winning the golden boot award for the last two seasons running, it will come as no surprise to many that Salah is breaking new ground for goals scored in the modern era. However, even the 27-year-old’s biggest fans may be somewhat shocked by the significance of this particular stat, which only serves to highlight how important he remains at Liverpool.
