Some Everton fans have been reacting on social media to a recent post on Twitter by Andre Gomes, as the midfielder looked ahead to Saturday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Everton travel to the Amex Stadium having won their first game in five Premier League fixtures, when goals by Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson were enough to beat West Ham United and move the Toffees out of the relegation places.
The Blues have yet won away from Goodison Park in the top-flight this season, though, and have scored just once on the road in their four games played thus far.
But beating the Irons has brought a renewed sense of confidence to Everton, and Gomes has shared that Marco Silva and his men are keen to replicate the high-intensity shown on Merseyside last week.
“Our success comes from hard work and strong belief,” he said. “We know we’re still not where we want to be, but we’re focused on maintaining last game’s performance and team spirit.”
Many Everton fans have been reacting to Gomes’ recent comment shared on Twitter, with some supporters agreeing with the Portuguese’s suggestion that the Blues’ must repeat the intensity of their performances against West Ham.
One fan has described last week’s display as being ‘fantastic’ with Gomes one of the stand out players from the result, and hopes that it sets the benchmark for the remainder of the campaign.
Gomes returned to Everton’s starting XI against West Ham following a rib injury, and completed the most dribbles of any Toffees player with three as well as playing one key pass and making two interceptions, per WhoScored data.
Another fan added that a win at Brighton on Saturday will help to bring more positivity to Goodison Park, as ‘all of the Premier League will sit up and take notice’ if Silva can orchestrate another victory.
Here are some of the messages shared…
Your right Andre. You all must perform with the same intensity quality creativity and positivity against Brighton on Saturday like you did against West Ham last Saturday. We need this type of performance every week and all of the premier League will sit up and take notice. COYB.

The performance last weekend was fantastic and what we all desire to be the standard for the rest of the season. You stood out as the best player on the pitch and it was great to see the team play around this. ????

As well as lauding Gomes for his classy performance against West Ham, some Everton fans have responded to the midfielder’s post by focusing on the efforts of other players, such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Calvert-Lewin was benched for the Hammers clash after failing to score against Burnley, where he failed to register any shots on goal, key passes or dribbles before being hooked in the 74th-minute (WhoScored).
Schneiderlin was also dropped from Silva’s plans following the Clarets loss, and fans seemingly are hopeful that the Frenchman is again omitted at the weekend.
Gomes replaced the 29-year-old in the 84th-minute at Turf Moor, where Schneiderlin had made no successful tackles or interceptions and played only eight of his 48 passes in the final third.
You just oooze elegance and style @aftgomes ,
Look at you so calm n collected whereas Dcl looks in a world of pain.

Some fans are not getting overly carried away after beating West Ham, though, as one supporter replied to Gomes post trying to play down the magnitude of last week’s win.
Another has shared that they hope Gomes has not jinxed Everton ahead of facing Brighton, as the Toffees need to take each game as they come, after winning a third of their league fixtures thus far.
Don’t jinx it Andre. Just take each game as it comes mate ur class
