A selection of Everton supporters have been reacting on social media after Yerry Mina missed training on Wednesday with a knee injury, according to Sky Sports.

Mina sustained the blow late on in Saturday’s 2-0 win over West Ham United, and is thought to now be a doubt for the Toffees’ trip to Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend as he is still struggling with the gripe.

The Colombian was forced to leave the field in the third minute of stoppage-time and be replaced by Mason Holgate, having played each available minute of his side’s opening seven Premier League games (WhoScored).

Central-defensive partner Michael Keane and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford are now the only two Everton players to have featured in 100 per cent of the league games on offer thus far.

Saturday’s clash with West Ham also saw boss Marco Silva tackle a much needed result without midfielders Fabian Delph and Morgan Schneiderlin, but are claimed to have trained as normal on Wednesday.

Turkey striker Cenk Tosun was also in training at Finch Farm as he recovers from a groin injury sustained while on international duty, but spent the session away from the first-team, as he will not be available for the Blues’ trip to the south coast.

Reports that Mina had missed training have left some Everton fans concerned, with one noting that they hope it was purely as a precaution.

Another suggested the 25-year-old is their side’s best defender, which would serve as a tough loss for Silva, after Mina won 12 of his 14 tackles so far this league season, along with 15 interceptions, 38 clearances and ten blocks.

Here are some of the messages shared…

While potentially losing Mina to a knee injury has raised concerns among the Goodison Park faithful, some Everton fans have suggested their club should have seen the situation coming, and not put ‘all the eggs in the Kurt Zouma basket’ this summer.

The Frenchman was Everton’s priority target in the recent transfer window after spending last term on loan with the Merseyside outfit (Liverpool Echo), but the Toffees failed to get a deal across the line as Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wanted the centre-half to stay at Stamford Bridge (Metro).

Another Blues fan has suggested Everton may be cursed when it comes to injuries, as Mina’s would be the latest in a growing line of blows after Silva lost Tosun, Schneiderlin and Delph, as well as losing Andre Gomes with a rib injury in September and losing Jean-Philippe Gbamin for a further three months after requiring surgery on the thigh injury sustained in August (Guardian).

Having replaced Mina off the bench late on against West Ham, some Everton fans have taken note of the Colombian’s absence from training by suggesting that the 25-year-old’s absence will be good news for Holgate.

The Doncaster-born centre-back is yet to start a Premier League game this season and has been an unused substitute on seven occasions (TransferMarkt). He did start both of the Blues’ Carabao Cup games, though, and helped to a clean sheet in the Third Round win over Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Another option for Silva would be to hand academy defender Lewis Gibson his senior debut, as he has included the youngster in some of his first-team training sessions this season (90min).

The 19-year-old is out of contract next summer and reportedly has eyes on securing a return to boyhood side Newcastle United (Football Insider), as he has grown concerned over his lack of first-team action at Everton.
