Some Chelsea fans have pleaded on Twitter for manager Frank Lampard to give Billy Gilmour a start in their midweek showdown with Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

This comes as a result of Lampard, in his recent press conference, claiming that the United game is an opportunity for some players that haven’t played as much to get a chance to play.

Some Chelsea fans saw this as a chance to show their support for Gilmour after Lampard’s comments were tweeted by the official Chelsea Twitter account.

Here’s a sample of Chelsea fans wanting Gilmour to start against United:

The 18-year-old has been a member of Chelsea’s youth squads since he moved to the club from Rangers in 2017 (per TransferMarkt). Now, as part of the U23’s team, the midfielder has made 31 appearances, scoring six and assisting nine times.

Some Chelsea fans now think it’s time for the teenager to get some playing time in the first squad.

What do we think?

It will be interesting to see if Lampard does take a chance on Gilmour in the game to see how he performs against top opposition. But, it should be a no brainer if his last performance against Grimsby was anything to go by as he received an 8/10 rating (as per West London Sport), describing him as playing with ‘great maturity’.

Although, Man United will be a completely different test for the youngster in comparison to Grimsby if he does end up getting the chance, but Chelsea fans can certainly feel confident after his last cup outing.
