Aston Villa fans have pleaded with their club to sign winger Said Benrahma from Brentford in the January transfer window.

This comes after Aston Villa fan account Villareport tweeted a rumour from Villa journalist Gregg Evans that the club has been looking at wingers to sign in January. Evans states that Aston Villa are more interested in signing a winger than a striker (55 minutes and 27 seconds onwards, The Villa View podcast).

Interestingly, this tweet has been met with a lot of Villa fans sharing their ideas on which winger the club should sign in the upcoming transfer window.

Indeed, the Villans were linked with a move for Said Benrahma back in the summer transfer window, but nothing came of it. And, it now appears as if some Villa fans want the club to move for him once again in January.

Here’s what they had to say:

This potential transfer has got a lot of Villa fans excited for January.

What do we think?

The Algerian international’s season in the Championship with Brentford so far has started slowly, as he as only managed two assists and one goal as of now. But those goals and assists have all come in his last two matches (per Transfermarkt), so it seems the 24-year-old has started a run of form for his club. If he continues on this run of form, a January move to Villa could look more and more likely with every week that goes past if they were to reignite their interest.

According to WhoScored, Benrahma has made an average of 2.9 dribbles and 2.3 key passes per game this season. Indeed, compared to current Villa winger Trezeguet, who has only made 1.3 dribbles and 0.8 key passes per game so far this season (per WhoScored), Benrahma could be seen as an upgrade, despite him currently playing at a lower level in the Championship.
