Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to share who they thought deserved the Man of the Match award in yesterday’s Carabao Cup clash with Wolves.

Villa fan account @villareport shared a post asking their followers who deserved the Man of the Match award, which then led to numerous Villa fans suggesting Henri Lansbury should win the accolade.

Here’s a sample of Villa fans suggesting Lansbury for the award:

The midfielder played 81 minutes in yesterday’s 2-1 victory, in which he managed to assist both of Villa’s goals (per Transfermarkt). In Villa’s second round cup game against Crewe Alexandra in August (BBC Sport), Lansbury played the entire 90 minutes in the 6-1 victory. He also picked up three assists and was Man of the Match (WhoScored).

What do we think?

Lansbury has only played seven minutes of Premier League action so far for Villa, coming on as a late sub in the club’s games against Crystal Palace and Arsenal (Transfermarkt). So, based on this, it seems Villa manager Dean Smith has been using Lansbury as a secret weapon for the Carabao Cup. Indeed, with his five assists in two cup matches this season, Smith’s plan seems to be working.

Lansbury has stepped up to the plate every time he’s been given the opportunity. Maybe yesterday’s performance may sway Smith into gifting Lansbury his first league start of the season.
