Tottenham are set to accelerate their efforts to sign Fulham’s Steven Sessegnon after failing with an initial £3m bid, according to the Sun.

The report claims that Fulham are expecting Spurs back with an improved offer for the 19-year-old.

Spurs signed his brother Ryan for £25m in the summer transfer window but he is yet to feature for the club after arriving injured.

Both players came up through the youth ranks at Fulham and Steven has talked about how Ryan’s career has spurred him on, and the two are obviously close.

“I use Ryan’s career at Fulham to push me on and try and make me do better,” said Steven.

“Being able to support Ryan on the journey he has had has been brilliant.”

TiF tactics – What would Spurs be getting?

Spurs already have the one Sessegnon brother after signing Ryan for £25m this summer. Now they want his brother, who they tried to sign as part of a package last month.

Steven hasn’t seen as much success as his brother yet but he has broken through into the Fulham first team this season and he’s been called up to the England Under-21 squad to play Turkey and Kosovo this week.

He’s played the last four games for Fulham in the Championship – his first after being restricted to just EFL cup appearances prior – as they look to win back promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

He’s been used at right-back this season but like his brother he’s a versatile player and can play in either full-back position, in the centre of defence or in midfield and that will appeal to Mauricio Pochettino.

In the Championship this season, he’s hit a pass success rate of 87.9% and completed 75% of his dribbles. He’s also made 4.43 interceptions and 1.97 clearances per 90 minutes [WyScout].

The worry from Tottenham’s perspective must be that his price will start going up if he’s a success in the first-team.
