Tottenham summer signing Giovani Lo Celso has revealed that he has not suffered a serious injury after a horror challenge forced him off the pitch in Argentina’s 0-0 draw against Chile in Los Angeles.

Lo Celso, 23, limped off early in the second half after a studs-up challenge by Charles Aranguiz, who was not even shown a yellow card for a tackle that could have caused a very serious injury.

Some Spurs fans on Twitter were understandably concerned about the fitness of their midfielder after seeing the incident but Lo Celso has now made it clear that his injury is only minor and not one that supporters should worry about.

“My problem was only a blow. It is not something to worry about. We deserved a bit more. We had a lot of chances to convert but it wasn’t to be,” the Argentine said, as quoted by Sky Sports on Friday [10:07am].

Lo Celso’s update should come as a massive relief for Spurs fans, who have already seen two summer signings suffer injuries with both Tangy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon currently sidelined.

The former Real Betis midfielder is yet to have much of an impact for Tottenham as he is still getting up to speed since his late summer switch to North London and has only made three appearances in the Premier League, all off the bench.

Despite finding his game-time limited, the Argentine has still looked like a superbly composed player when on the ball, sitting in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield.

According to stats by WhoScored, Lo Celso has so far completed 91.3 per cent of his passes in the Premier League and has completed more key passes per 90 minutes of action [4.1] than any other player in Pochettino’s squad.

Christian Eriksen comes next with 3.1 and then Son Heung-min with 2.1, so Lo Celso, despite his limited time on the pitch, is starting to really excel in that area.

It would not be a shock to see Lo Celso miss Argentina’s next match when they take on Mexico on Wednesday but it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to feature for Tottenham in their home clash against Crystal Palace next Saturday.

If he misses one game then it’s not a massive blow but based on Lo Celso’s comments, he should not be on the sidelines for long at all, which is great news for the club’s supporters.
