Wes Foderingham is prepared to run down his contract at Rangers and leave Ibrox at the end of the season, according to Football Insider

The 6’1″ stopper [Transfermarkt] has fallen out of favour at Ibrox, with Steven Gerrard preferring to go with Allan McGregor between the sticks.

And it is understood that despite receiving several offers to leave over the course of the summer, the 28-year-old is willing to see out the remainder of his current deal before departing the club for nothing when the current campaign reaches its conclusion.

How will this affect Rangers?

Honestly, not too much.

It is clear that Steven Gerrard has made his choice when it comes to who his first choice keeper is, and it’s incredibly hard to imagine Foderingham doing anything to displace McGregor between now and the end of the season.

For that reason alone, his absence wouldn’t be felt too keenly, and even if he were to leave tomorrow, the Gers would still have young Andy Firth as back-up to the veteran McGregor.

Of course, given that the report suggests that Foderingham isn’t going anywhere until the end of the season, that would presumably give Gerrard plenty of opportunity to source a replacement.

The former Swindon Town man is a fine player, make no mistake, having kept 54 clean sheets on 141 matches for the Gers, as per Transfermarkt, but decent second choice keepers are ten-a-penny, and you wouldn’t be too concerned if Foderingham does up-sticks and leave.

The only thing that might infuriate fans is the manner in which he is going about things.

It has been evident for some time that Foderingham’s days at Ibrox are numbered, and by the sounds of it, he had plenty of opportunity to walk away from the club over the summer.

The fact that he chose to stay, however, and that he is keen to run down his contract, doesn’t reflect well on him.

It gives the impression of a player who is only interested in collecting his wage packet, and who is willing to deprive the club of a transfer fee for his own personal gain.

Obviously, without all of the facts, it would be unfair to make any allegations or judgements of that nature, but certainly, that is how it seems.

If that is the case, it’s a shame that things have ended like this for a player who has given so much to the Gers over the years
