Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard enjoyed a dream debut for the France Under-21 side last night, scoring two goals off the bench.

He came on in the second half of the game and doubled his side’s lead in the 77th minute, before adding his second just before the end.

It caps a brilliant week for Edouard, that also saw him score the opening goal for Celtic in their 2-0 win against Rangers on Sunday, and it must put him in contention for a starting role in Sylvain Ripoll’s Under-21 side as they eye qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Slovakia next month.

Celtic fans are obviously delighted with his form but plenty were also thoroughly downbeat after such a high-profile debut, and think it will hasten his departure from the club.

Many predicted he would be the next big player to leave the club and there were plenty of sad face emojis present in the tweets despite his thrilling display last night.

Here’s what Celtic fans are saying on Twitter:

These two goals have put Edouard in the spotlight – if his heroics for Celtic hadn’t already done that.

He’s already scored six goals for Neil Lennon’s side this season, including the opener against Rangers in the 2-0 win, on top of the 22 goals he got last season.

One fan said he “needs to stop drawing attention to himself… we know how this ends…”

Another said that Celtic would have to go and find another brilliant young talent, adding, “We can’t keep top drawer talent for anymore than 2/3 years unfortunately”.

Another fan said that the goals would mark the beginning of the end for Edouard at Celtic, with another agreeing but saying they should “enjoy him while he’s ours”.

One supporter drew a comparison with striker Moussa Dembele who spent two seasons at Celtic before making a £20m move to Lyon.

“Next big sale” was the call from another Celtic fan.

Holding onto him through the January window will be the minimum aim for Lennon, after Edouard was linked with a move to Monaco this summer.
