Tottenham got their Champions League campaign started in Greece tonight and took a big step towards securing their first three points by half time.

Spurs scored their first after Harry Kane went down in the box for a clear penalty in the 26th minute.

Kane took the penalty himself, after missing one for England over the international break, but made no mistake tonight, firing the ball into the middle of the roof of the net.

Lucas Moura got the second just four minutes later with a thumping effort from outside the box.

The scoreline flattered Spurs who had been lucky not to go behind when Miguel Guerrero hit the post after 17 minutes. Georgios Masouras had a great chance to pull one back after 33 minutes but hit the ball into the ground and over the bar.

And Olympiacos got the goal they deserved just before half time.

That was a disappointment for Spurs and another was Tanguy Ndombele, making his first start for Tottenham since missing two games with a hamstring problem.

Spurs fans were expecting a lot from him after he was such a key player for Lyon in their Champions League campaign last season, but they were left disappointed.

Ndombele looked slow and as one fan put it, “miles off the pace”, with another asking, “What are you doing… wake up a bit”.

Ndombele was sloppy and gave the ball away a number of times, but seemed to settle into the game as the half went on.

Here are the best reactions from Tottenham fans to his first-half display:

Ndombele missed the Newcastle and Arsenal Premier League games but came back for a 23-minute cameo against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

He got a 6.4 rating from WhoScored on his return to the side but the game was done and dusted by the time he got on.

He’ll need to up his game in the second half if he wants to get into the 7s tonight.

It wasn’t just Ndombele who was looking shakey for Tottenham. One fan said, “This is the worst eight minutes I’ve seen us play in years. So sloppy.”

One fan replied saying, “We’ve not been that bad… Ndombele the weak link tho, still looks injured”.

Spurs settled as well, helped by the two quick-fire goals that put Olympiacos on the back foot.

It’s shaping up to be the perfect start for Mauricio Pochettino’s men as they bid to repeat their Champions League heroics of last season.
