Sky Sports have reported that Ryan Sessegnon could make his debut for Tottenham this weekend, and it might give a hint as to how Mauricio Pochettino is going to deploy him this season.

Sessegnon has been injured since he signed from Fulham over the summer but he could be unleashed by Pochettino against Crystal Palace.

Talking live on Sky Sports (Thursday, 11.45am), a reporter at Enfield, ahead of the press conference at lunchtime, said, “This could finally be the weekend that we see Ryan Sessegnon make his debut for Tottenham.

“He’s had two weeks to get himself fit and word is he could make his debut for Tottenham this weekend at full-back.”

Versatility of Sessegnon

Sessegnon can play in either of the full-back positions or in more advanced roles, but it sounds like Pochettino is looking to solve an immediate problem this weekend.

With Kyle Walker-Peters injured for the game against Arsenal, Davinson Sanchez was deployed at right-back and didn’t have a good time of it.

He was constantly targetted and got a 3/10 rating from Football London who said, “This was a poor performance, although he grew somewhat better in the second half, but it was as much about the decision to play him out of position.”

Pochettino is unlikely to make the same decision again but would he play Sessegnon at right-back in his first game for Spurs?

It would seem more likely that he’d come in on the left side, although that wouldn’t solve the big problem on the right.

Injury curse continues

Sessegnon is back but Tottenham are yet to confirm whethe Tanguy Ndombele is going to be fit for Saturday.

One player who is definitely out is summer signing Lo Celso who suffered a blow in the recent international between Argentina and Chile. He has now been ruled out until the end of October.

He only made three cameo appearances for Tottenham, with Pochettino saying he was a long way off where Tottenham would want him in terms of fitness.

That begs the question, asked by many Tottenham fans, as to why he was fit enough to start for Argentina last week.
