Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel has claimed that Troy Parrott is set to start for Tottenham in their Carabao Cup game against Colchester tonight.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino had previously hinted that the youngster could make his senior debut on Tuesday night.

When asked whether Parrott would play he replied, “Maybe, of course, he was at Leicester, but he wasn’t in the 18 players. We will see.” [talkSPORT]

Now it looks like he’s not only set to make his debut but to line-up from the start.

Mokbel made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday evening and it was later backed up by Standard journalist Dan Kilpatrick.

Terrace talk

Tottenham fans have been calling for Parrott to get his debut for some time and they’re understandably delighted with the news.

One fan said that he “hopes he plays a blinder” and it would seem like a tailor-made game for him. Parrott won’t get a much easier first-team debut than against League 2 opposition.

It comes as a slight surprise after Pochettino had asked ROI senior manager Mick McCarthy not to promote him to the senior squad. He’s only 17 and the manager is obviously keen not to overexpose him.

Pochettino has used the Carabao Cup to blood new youngsters before, with Oliver Skipp making his debut against West Ham last season, and Tashan Oakley-Boothe making his bow against Barnsley the season before. Both players were introduced off the bench and we thought Parrott would do the same. It looks like Pochettino has decided he’s ready to unleash him straight from the off.

It’s set to be an exciting night for the youngster and for Tottenham fans.
