Everton fans are going to love new signing Fabian Delph, according to Darren Bent.

The 29-year-old made his Premier League debut in a wholly impressive 3-2 win over Wolves on Sunday, and Bent expects him to become a real hit with the Goodison Park faithful.

Speaking to Football Insider, the Sky Sports pundit said: “Yeah they are [going to love him], I know Delphy really well. He’s all about getting about, getting the ball, moving the ball, he’s confident, he goes about the game in the right way.

“He might be a player on big wages but he’s worth what he earns.

“He’s perfect for them. He’s going to help them retain the ball, while he’s a leader for the young guys in the dressing room. He’ll bring something different.”

What does Delph bring to Everton?

The England international is an experienced battler who should perfectly step into the void left by the departure of Idrissa Gueye.

Delph has a wealth of know how when it comes to winning trophies, having picked up two Premier League titles and an FA Cup during his time with Manchester City, and has played at the very pinnacle of the professional game.

His Premier League debut for the Toffees showed exactly the sort of player he is going to be on Merseyside, and there was plenty for the Blues to be excited about.

Four tackles, two interceptions, two clearances, and not being dribbled past once against Wolves, as per Whoscored, illustrates exactly the kind of imperious defensive presence Delph will provide in the centre of the park.

In a more attacking sense, Delph should provide the foundation on which a lot of Everton’s forward play is built this season.

Not only is he a great ball winner, he is also a tidy retainer of possession, and his pass completion rate of 87.1% from 62 passes against Wolves showed just how handy he can be when it comes to building attacks from the centre of midfield.

Moreover, the international registered a massive six successful long balls at the weekend, emphasising a range of passing that can be lethal for the Toffees when used correctly.

With the pace of Richarlison, Moise Kean, and Alex Iwobi ahead of him, and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin providing an impressive target man, there is plenty for Delph to be aiming at, whether he is looking to get his side in behind a high line or simply relieving pressure from his defensive third.

All in all, Delph looks like a fantastic purchase already.
