Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has suggested that Danny Rose could have asked Kieran Trippier about his move away from Tottenham to join La Liga side Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Rose and Trippier have been reunited together on international duty with England this week and Mills has revealed that players used to talk all the time about their transfers.

“That’s always happened, even back in my day. That’s gone on for many, many years,” Mills told Football Insider when asked if Rose could have talked to Trippier about Atletico.

“Managers would always say to players in the international squad: ‘Just have a word with so-and-so, just have a chat, let him know how good he is. Remind him what he could be doing, what he could be missing out on.'”

Rose was linked with a move away from Spurs in the summer with Spanish news outlet Sport reporting that the 29-year-old was offered to Barcelona.

Do Tottenham need Rose?

Rose is definitely Mauricio Pochettino’s best left-back and is one of the best in the Premier League.

He has started all four of the North London club’s Premier League fixtures this season and despite some rocky results for the team, if someone is going to keep their spot, it’s going to be the England international.

Rose is in the final two years of his contract now though and once next summer comes around, he will be into his last 12 months unless new terms are agreed by then.

Rose is a good left-back but he is not irreplaceable and as he would turn 30 next summer, there might a chance that Pochettino will look to sell him on and find a younger replacement.

Could Davies step up?

Tottenham fans would probably rather Pochettino went out and signed a new left-back to replace Rose rather than see Davies become first-choice and a new one brought in as back-up.

With the way that Pochettino sets his side up to play, it’s important that the full-backs know what they are doing in the attack.

According to stats by WhoScored, Rose averaged more key passes, shots at goal and dribbles per Premier League appearance last season than Davies, even though the ex-Swansea left-back played more minutes.

Rose also supplied three assists last term and Davies did not supply any.

Rose may be older and he may be the one who is getting linked with a move away from Tottenham and not Davies, but the England international is certainly a better shout than his Welsh team-mate.
