Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight at Victor Lindelof signing a new deal at Old Trafford.

The Swede has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will keep him at the club until at least 2024, with the option to extend his stay for another year beyond that date.

The Reds made the announcement via their official website on Wednesday.

Lindelof signed for United back in 2017, and has established himself as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of defence this term, starting all five of the Reds’ Premier League matches thus far.

And it’s fair to say that supporters are over the moon with the news on the 25-year-old’s future.

Here are some of the best tweets from fans.

Lindelof endured a fairly rocky start to life in England, making just 17 Premier League appearances in his first season un Manchester, and registering just the one tackle per game that year, as per Whoscored.

Since then, however, he has slowly played his way into a regular starting role, and his progress can be tracked by his tackles per game averages, which jumped from 1 to 1.3 last season, and from 1.3 to 1.6 so far this.

He is playing with greater authority, and starting to make good on the potential which has always been there.

Lindelof actually managed 3.8 clearances per match during his first campaign in England, and has kept that level going throughout his stay in the north west. Last year yielded 3.9 clearances per game, and this year has seen him provide 3.8.

The talent has always been there, it just feels as if only recently he has been able to properly express it.

Now partnered with Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s defence, the Scandinavian ace looks much more settled, and given the England international’s quality, it is easy to see why.

Not only has Maguire managed a huge 4.6 tackles per match for United so far this term, as per Whoscored, but he has also registered a very decent pass completion rate of 88.1%.

That added comfort on the ball brings a calming presence at the back, and hopefully will continue to rub off on Lindelof.

With this new deal, the pair have plenty of time to continue building their partnership.
