Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Fabinho for his performance in the 2-0 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

A Dries Mertens penalty and a late Fernando Llorente goal denied the Reds a point in Italy, but the midfielder still put in a world class display.

The Brazilian started in a central three alongside James Milner and Jordan Henderson to maintain his record of having played in every match for the Reds so far this campaign.

And he repaid his manager’s continued faith in him with another barnstorming performance for the European champions on a disappointing evening.

Fabinho was immense from start to finish for Klopp’s men, breaking up play with his usual brand of assured disruption, and getting Liverpool moving in the other direction with an array of sublime passes.

And it’s fair to say that Kopites everywhere were loving it.

Here are some of the best tweets from Liverpool supporters.

Fabinho has been magnificent for Liverpool in recent times, and his performance on Tuesday was just another illustration of why he is quickly becoming one of the finest defensive midfielders in the world.

So far this term, he has averaged 3.1 tackles per 90 minutes in the Premier League, as well as making 1.7 key passes with a total pass completion rate of 87.1%, as per Whoscored.

That’s already showing sizeable improvements on last season, when averaged 2.6 tackles per 90, as well as 0.7 key passes.

In short, he is getting better and better in a red shirt and if he continues on this trajectory then Liverpool will have a truly elite CDM on their hands.

As a point of reference, the much heralded Fernandinho, widely regarded as one of the key components of Pep Guardiola’s back-to-back title winning Manchester City behemoths, only averaged 2.2 tackles per 90 minutes last term, as per Whoscored, and fell well short of Fabinho with just 0.8 key passes per 90.

If that is the sort of esteemed company that the 25-year-old is outperforming then the sky truly is the limit for Fabinho, who has provided a much needed steeliness and quality to the Kop’s engine room.
