Leeds United want to get Stuart Dallas tied down to a new contract, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

The former Yorkshire Evening Post reporter claimed via a live Q&A session on The Athletic’s website on Sunday that Leeds are in talks with Mateusz Klich about a new contract but also want to get Dallas, 28, to sign fresh terms.

“They’re speaking with Klich and they’ll be targeting a new deal for Dallas too,” said Hay.

“Both players’ current contracts expire at the end of this season, both are starters under Bielsa at present and both have earned a wage increase.

“You’d like to think that if Leeds can get Phillips done, which they have, they’ll be able to tie down the likes of Klich and Dallas.”

Dallas has started all six of Leeds’ Championship fixtures so far this season.

Likely to happen?

If Dallas is playing regularly then it should not be too difficult to get him to sign a new contract.

As pointed out by Hay, the Northern Ireland international’s current terms expire at the end of the season and the chances are that he would rather stay put at Leeds than fancy his chances of becoming a free agent.

Dallas is a decent player who has had quite a mixed spell at Elland Road, but you would imagine that the possibility of playing for a Premier League team under Marcelo Bielsa next season would be enough to get him to stay.

TIF Tactics

Dallas hasn’t always been a first-team regular for the Whites and has mainly been utilised for his brilliant versatility that sees him able to play in both full-back and both winger roles.

This season has seen the ex-Brentford ace make six appearances as Leeds’ right-back in the Championship, with him scoring one goal in the process which came in the 3-0 win at Stoke City.

Considering he is being played at right-back, Dallas’ stats have been very impressive.

According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old has averaged 1.7 shots at goal, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 crosses per match for Leeds in the Championship.

He is someone who is consistently playing well and someone that Bielsa can really rely upon.
