It seems that losing is contagious.

After the senior Leeds side lost to Charlton on Saturday, Carlos Corberan’s Under-23 side fell to Crewe on Monday afternoon at Thorp Arch.

Luke Ayling and Barry Douglas started but both first-team players were subbed off after 37 minutes for Gaetano Berardi and Charlie Cresswell respectively. That points to them likely being on the bench tomorrow night against West Brom.

Leeds went in 2-0 down at half-time against Crewe today and a goal by Robbie Gotts in the second half wasn’t enough to save the youngsters from their second defeat of the season.

Some Leeds fans were impressed with his display in an otherwise uninspiring outing for the Under-23s, that saw Jack Clarke start but get subbed off at half time.

Another fan pointed out that the performance from the Under-23s reminded them of the way the first team is playing at the moment.

19-year-old right-back Gotts was the exception.

Here are the best reactions from Leeds fans to his performance today:

One fan said, “Get Gotts in first team deserves a chance” while another said, “Still wondering why Robbie Gotts hasn’t come in for the first team yet, his work rate is relentless!”

Gotts hasn’t made his first-team debut but he’s made the bench on a number of occasions.

Just this season Bielsa has put him on the bench four times in the Championship, but with Stuart Dallas impressing in the right-back position and Luke Ayling back from injury, his immediate chances of making his debut must be slim.

He’s obviously highly regarded at Leeds, though, and earned a new contract earlier this year that will keep him at Elland Road until 2022.
