Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to hail Mateusz Klich for his contribution against Barnsley on Saturday.

The Polish international scored his first goal of the season with a cooly taken penalty to wrap up a 2-0 win and send Marcelo Bielsa’s men back to the top of the Championship table.

But Klich’s efforts on Sunday went far beyond a late strike from the spot.

The 29-year-old was imperious in the centre of the park, alongside a very impressive Kalvin Phillips, and his goal, dispatched so cheekily, was the icing on the cake of a fine, fine win.

Here are some of the best tweets from supporters.

Credit to Klich, he has pulled off one of the great turnarounds of recent memory at Elland Road.

It was only 18 months or so ago that he was shipped out to FC Utrecht on loan and it looked as if he was destined for the glue factory in Yorkshire, but he has come back into the side under Bielsa’s tenure and has made himself a properly significant member of this United side.

After seven Championship appearances this season he is already averaging 2.4 shots and three key passes per game, as per Whoscored, and his pass completion rate of 81.1% shows that he is doing it all with a tidiness and efficiency that makes him an ideal cog in Bielsa’s well-oiled machine.

As for the penalty itself, it should hopefully put to bed a debate over who United’s go-to man from the spot is.

Patrick Bamford scored one last season, as per Transfermarkt, while Kemar Roofe hit one and missed another, but after the calmness and assuredness with which Klich rolled the ball into the bottom corner on Sunday afternoon, he must be the main man from here on in.

There were several contenders for man of the match against the Tykes, with the aforementioned Phillips standing out alongside keeper Kiko Casilla and teenage strike sensation Eddie Nketiah, but Klich fully deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as those players after a sublime performance.
