Phil Hay has claimed that two Leeds players could have their contracts terminated if they’re not sold or loaned out today.

The European and domestic lower league transfer windows close on Monday and Hay claimed there would likely be a number of exits from the club.

The Athletic journalist tweeted on Monday morning to say, “Likely to see a handful of outgoings from Elland Road before today’s transfer deadlines – De Bock, Shaughnessy, Anita, Bouy.”

One Leeds fan asked whether any of those players would be “paid off or ‘mutual agreement’ for those we won’t get rid of before the deadline.”

Hay replied, “Anita and Bouy might have to be paid off. Depends on what happens with them today. Anita only has 12 months left. Bouy still has two more years.”

Orta’s scattergun summer

Leeds director of football Victor Orta didn’t have his most consistent summer at Leeds in 2017, signing a number of players who flopped at Elland Road.

Anita arrived on a free transfer from Newcastle and only made 22 appearances for the club. Ouasim Bouy arrived from Juventus and didn’t make a single appearance for the club. It looks like both of these players could be leaving Elland Road today whether any other clubs come in for them or not.

Other Orta flops include Cameron-Borthwick Jackson, Pawel Cibicki, Felix Wiedwald, Hadi Sacko, Jay-Roy Grot, Caleb Ekuban and Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

It’s fair to say that Orta has benefited from the arrival of manager Marcelo Bielsa with the club identifying a much smaller group of players this summer with a much better hit rate.

Ben White has done brilliantly since he joined on-loan from Brighton, and Helder Costa and Eddie Nketiah have impressed without making a start yet in the Championship.

Shaughnessy and De Bock could have found clubs

The BBC Nottingham Twitter account claimed later on Monday that Conor Shaughnessy might have found a club, claiming that Mansfield are set to sign him on loan.

And Hay tweeted later to say that De Bock was joining Sunderland on a season-long loan.
