Gough: Rashford as good at penalties as Kane

talkSPORT pundit Darren Gough has claimed that Marcus Rashford is as good as Harry Kane from the penalty spot.

That comes after Kane scored two penalties for England in the 4-0 win against Bulgaria on Saturday.

“I see him at the penalty spot and he’s as good as Kane there,” Gough said on Drive (talkSPORT, Monday, 4pm).

“I know he missed one the other day. But the problem is he misses chances, he missed a couple for England against Bulgaria. But he’s only 21 and he will get better.”

Gough needs to think again

Kane hasn’t missed a penalty for England, scoring eight from eight, and has a 90% conversion rate for club and country since the start of the 17/18 season.

The two penalties he scored against Bulgaria were unstoppable.

Rashford has decent numbers too. He had a perfect record for Man United when Paul Pogba took the ball and missed from the spot in the 1-1 draw against Wolves in the Premier League.

Ironically, after that penalty incident caused a stir, Rashford missed his next penalty for United and it cost them as they lost 2-1 to a late goal from Crystal Palace.

Rashford is a better penalty taker than Pogba but there’s only one man we’d want on penalties for England and it’s Tottenham’s main man.

Gough is right about one thing, though. It’s easy to forget that Rashford is still only 21 – he will improve and he will become a force for England in the future. Whether that’s as a number nine is up for debate.
