Everton fans have taken to Twitter to savage Dominic Calvert-Lewin for his performance against Bournemouth on Sunday.

The young striker was on the scoresheet for the Toffees in a 3-1 defeat on the south coast, but it wasn’t enough to stop supporters from giving him both barrels on social media.

In fairness, the 22-year-old didn’t have the greatest of afternoons, goal aside.

It was he who switched off at the back post to allow the Cherries to take the lead from a corner, and he seemed to spend most of his outing aimlessly chasing down lost causes.

With Moise Kean waiting in the wings, the Englishman cannot afford too many more misfires like the display he put in at the Vitality Stadium.

Here are some of the best tweets from fans.

To be fair to Calvert-Lewin, he never seems to given less than 100%, and he is a considerable physical threat for defenders to deal with.

Prior to Sunday he had averaged an impressive 4.8 aerial duel wins per match in the Premier League this term, as per Whoscored, but that stat aside, he has looked pretty poor.

Averages of just 0.8 shots, 0.3 key passes, and 0.5 successful dribbles give the impression of a player who can do nothing but win knockdowns for his teammates, and a pass completion rate of just 60.4% would suggest that he hasn’t even done that particularly well.

The logical thing to do is to start with someone else leading the line next week.

Kean is the obvious solution, and while the teenager hasn’t hit top gear in England yet, but he has shown flashes of what he is capable of.

Jose Mourinho said he was excited by the youngster on Sky Sports at the start of September.

He will need time to settle, no doubt, but given enough patience, you would expect him to be a real asset for Marco Silva’s men.

If and when he does come good, you would have to worry for Calvert-Lewin.
