Marcelo Bielsa confirmed that Tyler Roberts would be available for the Championship game against Barnsley on Sunday.

Bielsa was talking in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon (live in the LUFC app, 2pm, Friday).

The 20-year-old attacker has been missing since the tail-end of last season but came through 45 minutes for the Under-23s against Crystal Palace on Monday.

Bielsa also said that Luke Ayling was “healthy” and that he would play for the Under-23s next week.

Leeds injury curse over?

There were no more injury issues and it means that Bielsa is close to having a full squad to pick from after an 18/19 campaign that was dominated by sidelined players.

That was laid out in numbers by the Yorkshire Evening Post in April when it was revealed that Leeds had suffered an incredible 31 individual injuries, with players missing 165 games. These stats didn’t include players who had been ruled out for the season.

With Izzy Brown arriving injured on loan and taking until Christmas to get fit, it meant that Bielsa didn’t have a full squad to select from the whole campaign.

If Leeds can get through the Barnsley game, that might happen for the game against Derby on September 21.

The other news that dominated the press conference was the new contract for Kalvin Phillips.

Bielsa said that it was good for Phillips but also good for the team, and fans will be hoping the boost that gives the side will spark a reaction on the pitch.

Leeds lost their last game – their only defeat of the season so far – against Swansea and that saw them drop off the top of table. Bielsa will be expecting three points from Leeds against a side that’s struggling in 17th in the Championship on Sunday.
