BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes that Liverpool have what it takes to win the Premier League, despite not making any significant signings this summer.

Writing in his column for the Sun, Shearer said that he doubted either Man City or Liverpool would be able to improve on what they delivered last season, with Pep Guardiola’s side pipping Liverpool by a single point – 98 to 97.

However, he said Liverpool could build on their Champions League win and go one better this season, with Jurgen Klopp finally delivering the Premier League title to Anfield.

“I just can’t see anyone challenging these two when it comes to lifting the trophy in May,” Shearer wrote.

“I’m going to stick my neck out here and say Liverpool might just pip City to the league, providing they are more organised in defence than they looked at times on Sunday.

“Despite City winning the domestic Treble last time, the momentum Liverpool will have from bagging the Champions League will be crucial this season.”

Shearer did also point out that Klopp hasn’t made any signings this summer and added, “I hope Liverpool don’t live to regret it”.

Surprise prediction?

Most pundits believe the title will end up in Manchester or Liverpool next summer, but most have gone for the safe option.

Man City have strengthened this summer with moves for Rodri, Angelino and Zach Steffen, and they’re close to adding Joao Cancelo according to Sky Sports.

However, the title could have gone either way last season and the Community Shield showed the two clubs are still tough to separate.

Liverpool nearly won the game at the death after coming from behind when Kyle Walker made an incredible clearance off the line in injury time from a Mohamed Salah header.

Pep’s men lifted the silverware again, though, after beating Liverpool on penalties.

Liverpool get the Premier League season underway on Friday when they host Norwich and it’s tough to see anything but three points for Klopp’s side then.

Man City have a tougher opener as they travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham on Saturday lunchtime.

As last season pointed out, every single point could be crucial.
