Leeds are still on the hunt for a senior attacking signing after Kemar Roofe left to move to Anderlecht.

Fans were hoping to get two – Ryan Kent from Liverpool and Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on loan.

Football Insider had reported that Leeds had submitted a £7m offer for Kent, while the BBC said that Leeds had “come on strong” for Nketiah.

However, talking today in a Transfer Special on The Athletic, journalist Phil Hay said that it would be one or the other, not both, unless another player left the club.

He said, “I’m hoping to speak to Leeds with regards to FFP soon. It’s been an issue at Elland Road this summer but there’s evidently confusion on the outside as to why it’s such a concern.

“From what I’m told, unless someone else was to leave it will be Nketiah or Kent, not both. There’s already a big clutch of wingers in the squad.”

Bielsa’s choice

If it was a straight choice for Bielsa – and we don’t know that either player will come to Leeds yet – who should he go for?

Ryan Kent impressed for Rangers last season, winning the club’s Young Player of the Year and the 2018/19 PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year awards.

Kent can play on either wing or as a secondary striker but he only featured up front once for the Scottish club.

He scored six goals in 43 games and added nine assists, which is a decent return, but the Premiership is generally a lower standard than the Championship.

Kent has only made one senior appearance for Liverpool.

Nketiah is a striker and his record in the Arsenal youth sides is tremendous.

He scored 15 in 16 for the Under-18s and 28 in 38 for the Under 23s. [Transfermarkt]

He’s also had more Premier League experience, playing 19 times for Arsenal and scoring three times with just three starts.

Leeds already have plenty of wingers – Jack Harrison, Jack Clarke, Helder Costa and Pablo Hernandez.

With Roofe gone they only have one senior striker, with Tyler Roberts currently injured and more used in an attacking midfield position last season.

Given that, Nketiah would surely be the best option for Leeds and a loan move would suit the finances too, given the precarious nature of financial fair play in the Championship.
