West Bromwich Albion are interested in pinching midfielder Romaine Sawyers from their Championship rivals Brentford, according to journalist John Percy.

The Daily Telegraph’s Midlands reporter revealed the news on his personal Twitter account on Monday, claiming that the Bees star would cost around £3million.

It’s thought that something could come of the Baggies’ interest in the next few days. However, other clubs are said to be interested in the 27-year-old.

It’s been a busy few days in the transfer market for West Brom boss Slaven Bilic, with the club recently confirming the arrivals of Kenneth Zohore and Semi Ajayi.

Likely to happen?

Well, this is the thing, isn’t it? Other teams are sniffing around Sawyers as well, which makes it difficult. This is a guy who is extremely proven at Championship level and is at a solid club in Brentford. There’s no particular reason for him to leave at the moment, so he’d have to be really convinced by the project on offer at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies are a top team in the Championship, though, real divisional heavyweights. £3million isn’t much money for them and they’d be getting a tried and tested operator. If they pay the money there shouldn’t really be any reason why they can’t get a deal done.

TiF Tactics – Does Sawyers provide anything different in the West Brom engine room?

Sawyers is a long, rangy, box-to-box midfielder who can do a bit of everything. The Baggies at the moment have plenty of central midfield destroyers, but not too many players who can dictate the pace of a game.

The Bees ace, though, can do that. As per WhoScored.com, he beat out West Brom midfielders Jake Livermore, Chris Brunt and Sam Field in key passes per game, average passes per game and pass success rate last season.

Clearly this is a man who can stroke the ball around nicely and get things going. He also managed six assists last time out, the joint most of the quartet.

It would appear, then, that the answer to the question of does Sawyers provide anything different for Bilic’s side, would be a resounding yes.
