West Ham get Arnie exit statement spot on

West Ham have made their feelings very clear with the official announcement about Marko Arnautovic’s exit from the club – and they have judged it perfectly.

In a short tweet put out on Monday morning, the club said, “Marko Arnautovic departs”.

The full statement on the site wasn’t much more forthcoming: “West Ham United can confirm that Marko Arnautovic has joined Chinese Super League champions Shanghai SIPG for an undisclosed fee.

“The 30-year-old Austrian departs after two seasons at London Stadium, during which he scored 22 goals in 65 appearances in Claret and Blue.”

That’s it. No good luck message and no thanks for his time at the London Stadium.

Clubs can get things horribly wrong but West Ham have handled Arnautovic’s exit professionally.

Manuel Pellegrini was said to be furious but there’s nothing to be gained by airing dirty laundry in public.

He’s gone, West Ham should forget about him and look to the future.

After putting in a transfer request at Stoke before his move to West Ham, Arnautovic’s actions have been in keeping with his character.

He agitated for a move in January before signing a new contract. And then he pushed for a move this summer.

West Ham fans don’t want to see any messages of support for the player and their responses show the club has got this one spot on.

This is how fans responded to the statement:
