Man United are set to make another major summer signing after having a bid accepted for Bruno Fernandes, according to Football Insider

United have been in talks with Sporting Lisbon all summer over a move for the 24-year-old and it looks like they’re going to get their man with a £60m+ bid – £30m less than his £90m release clause.

The attacking midfielder will be confirmed by United next week and will become the latest Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recruit, following deals for Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and Daniel James from Swansea.

What are United getting?

One of the most prolific midfielders in Europe. He scored 32 goals in 53 games last season with 18 assists.

The Premier League might be a step up but Fernandes proved himself in the Europa League with three goals and two assists in eight games.

He joined Sporting Lisbon in 2017 in an £8.72m move from Sampdoria, with the Portuguese club now set to bank a massive profit on the player.

Fernandes was ranked the best player in Liga Nos last season (with a rating of 7.83) and also topped the shots per game chart (3.6). [WhoScored.com]

Across the 18/19 Liga Nos season and the Europa League, Fernandes scored 0.53 goals per 90 minutes, although his xG was only 0.3 suggesting he may have been riding the wave of variance. [wyscout.com]

He completed 75% of 50 passes per 90 minutes and took just over three shots a game, almost half on target.

Fernandes is versatile too – he can play in midfield or as a second striker and, after the troubles under Jose Mourinho, he’s exactly the sort of player the Old Trafford faithful have been waiting for.
