Sevilla make Casilla contract offer

|

La Liga side Sevilla have made a contract offer to Leeds goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, according to Football Insider.

However, it doesn’t match his current salary which is said to be £40,000-a-week.

Football Insider claims that Leeds are still open to moving Casilla on despite the start of the Championship next weekend.

Sevilla already have Czech international Tomas Vaclik and it’s unlikely that Casilla would be their number one should he move.

Likely to happen?

Leeds fans were open to Casilla moving on at the start of the summer, after a string of howlers in the second half of the season, culminating in a massive mistake that let Derby back into the play-off semi-final.

However, Leeds kick off their new campaign in just six days and a move now would surely put a dent in their pre-season preparations and leave them little time to bring a quality replacement in.

Casilla is looking like the Leeds number one again and he was between the sticks for the friendly against Cagliari over the weekend, the club’s last before the first game of the Championship against Bristol City next Sunday.

Casilla’s wages are very high and that could provide a reason for selling him but we imagine that fans will want to hold onto him now, howlers and all.

As for Casilla, why would he move for less than he’s currently on at Leeds, especially as he’s likely to be used from the bench? Unless Sevilla’s offer changes, we’d say this one is unlikely.
