QPR confirmed a loan deal for Tottenham midfielder Luke Amos on Monday and he’s a massive signing for new manager Mark Warburton.

After coming up through the Spurs academy from the age of nine, Amos was on the fringes of the first-team last season when a cruciate ligament injury struck after he made his senior debut in the Premier League against Newcastle.

The injury took him out for the season and that put his development back to a point where Mauricio Pochettino thought he’d be better off going on loan.

Their loss is QPR’s gain, though, and Warburton’s arrival will have been pivotal in the deal.

He’s got a fantastic record with young players that started at Watford where he coached at youth level before being made assistant academy manager.

Warburton made his name at Brentford where he had great success with academy players, taking the club up from League One and finishing fifth in the Championship.

From Brentford, Warburton moved to Rangers where he carried on his philosophy of involving as many young players as possible.

Craig Muholland, head of the academy at the time, praised Warburton’s approach and said: “We had all of our staff in on Monday night for an in-service where we looked at a video of our style of play from our youngest age groups at under-11, right through to our under-20s group.

“When you see it all coming together, we are hopefully creating a club-wide philosophy in terms of our style of play.

He took young Tottenham player Nathan Oduwa on loan in 2015 and it seems that the Tottenham board are now ready to trust him with one of their most promising players.

If Amos can rediscover the form that took him into the Tottenham first-team, he could be a hugely influential player in the Championship.

We think it’s a great move for Amos and hopefully he’ll be able to get minutes under his belt and get his career back on track. QPR fans have got Warburton to thank for the exciting deal.
