Leicester have agreed a £30million fee for Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez, according to Sky Sports.

Perez has also agreed personal terms with Leicester and is undergoing a medical, with the deal expected to be announced later on Wednesday.

The Telegraph’s John Percy said that Leicester are also homing in on a £40m move for Youri Tielemans. A deal for the Monaco player could be done early next week.

VERDICT

Brendan Rodgers isn’t messing about at Leicester. He was a serial winner at Celtic and the Leicester owners are obviously prepared to back him with money this summer. It’s yet another blow for Newcastle though, after Rafa Benitez left the club to manage in China when his contract expired at the end of June. Perez was the club’s top scorer last season with 12 goals in 37 games and there’s no guarantee that the money will be ploughed back into the club by owner Mike Ashley. He will bank a huge profit from the Perez sale after Newcastle paid £1.8million to sign him from CD Tenerife in 2014. Newcastle have lost Salomon Rondon, too, after he forged a highly successful partnership with Perez. Rondon assisted six of the 12 goals that Perez scored – the second-best assist to goal-scorer record in the Premier League last season [WhoScored.com]. Newcastle need a new manager and they need new recruits fast.
