Man United have announced that Marcus Rashford has signed a new contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2023, with an option of an extra year, and fans are delighted but want to see more from the 21-year-old striker.

He’s had a big bump in wages, up from just £45k-a-week to a reported £200,000 according to the BBC.

On signing the new deal, Rashford pledged to help get the club back to its former glory saying, “I will be giving everything I have to help get this club back to where it belongs and deliver the success that our fans deserve.”

And that’s what the fans want from a player who has bags of talent and the potential to be a true star on the world stage.

He’s a long way off that at the moment.

Just taking his Premier League stats, Rashford lags way behind Sergio Aguero on pretty much every metric.

Aguero has an xG of 0.71 per 90 minutes compared to just 0.26 for Rashford.

The Man City striker takes 4.24 shots per 90 (41% on target) and makes 25.46 passes with an accuracy of 83.7%. Rashford takes 2.43 shots per 90 (43.1% on target) and makes 24.92 passes with an accuracy of 77.8%. [www.wyscout.com]

You could argue that it’s unfair to compare Rashford with one of the best strikers in the world but at £200,000-a-week (not far off Aguero who’s on £230k-a-week), United can expect a lot more from him.

The fans certainly do – here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
