West Ham ‘s £45million deal for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez is off, according to Sky Sports.

Daily Star journalist Paul Brown had claimed earlier on Tuesday that West Ham were confident of hijacking the Valencia deal for Gomez after offering him double the wages the Spanish club were putting on the table.

However, he said the one sticking point was that West Ham wanted to pay the fee in installments.

That could have cost them the player, with an update on the Sky Sports live transfer blog (3.13pm) stating that the two clubs couldn’t agree a payment structure for the £45million fee.

They claim that the deal is off and that Gomez is due in Spain tomorrow to sign for Valencia.

VERDICT

This would be a big blow for West Ham, with a deal for Gomez hanging in the balance for the last couple of days. The Hammers have pushed hard for him after losing Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez and Marko Arnautovic this summer, and the only consolation is that there’s still a month left for them to find a new goal-scorer if Gomez does sign with Valencia. Until it’s officially confirmed there’s still hope for West Ham fans, with Gomez seemingly flip-flopping several times over the past 48 hours. However, it could take West Ham agreeing to pay the £45million in one hit. And there was more bad news for West Ham today as it looks like their other reported target, Salomon Rondon, could be heading to China to play for former manager Rafa Benitez. Football Insider has reported that Rondon has agreed personal terms with Dalian Yifang. Losing two strikers in one day? That could be seen as negligence.
