There have been no talks between Rangers and Bolton Wanderers hitman Josh Magennis over a move to Ibrox with the story looking to have originated as his agent drumming up interest, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim on their website that despite the Belfast Telegraph stating that the Gers had been in talks with the Northern Irish international forward, there have been no discussions between the Ibrox side and the Bolton man.

It is stated that the Trotters’ financial status may have led to Magennis’ agent trying to get potential suitors interest in the attacker, using Rangers as a big name to drive business.

Opinion

This will be music to the ears of the Rangers fans, who will no doubt have been worried when the claims of talks with Magennis emerged. Despite being a Norther Ireland international, which of course builds that connection with a move to Ibrox, he is hardly the sort of top quality talent Steven Gerrard is going to be looking at to improve his side. Magennis is not the most prolific of hitman and was part of a Bolton side relegated from the Championship. If Rangers want to catch Celtic any time soon, they need to be looking at targets a lot more impressive than the Bolton man. You look at the sort of signings the Hoops are making and ask yourself would they be interested in Magennis? The answer would be a firm no and on that basis Rangers should rule themselves out of the running too. Thankfully for the Gers, it appears that they do not need to make that decision as talks are rubbished.
